Speedy Land Surveying Solutions

Consider this: A wind energy developer requests a proposal on Thursday, and Atwell responds with preliminary site data and on-site survey crews the following Saturday.

In support of a proposed 200MW wind energy facility in Texas, the team mobilized to collect monumentation and a boundary resolution on the 24,000-acre site. The massive parcel was also flown for aerial photogrammetry to efficiently collect planimetric features, contours and other site characteristics required to create an ALTA/ACSM survey for this fast-tracked project.

A Productive Partnership

Over the past decade, Atwell has contributed to more than 650 power transmission, substation and distribution system projects for one of the nation’s largest electric utility providers. As the primary land surveying consultant, Atwell provides construction project planning, technical oversight and field operations for new transmission lines, generation facility interconnectivity, infrastructure repair and expansion projects, real estate transactions, emergency response surveys and other special projects.

Real-Time Modeling Resource

Atwell’s natural resource and GIS teams partnered to help a regional electric cooperative with a transmission line project in Oklahoma. In mid-construction, the client was seeking recommendations on where to locate diverters on the lines and poles to avoid impacts to whooping cranes during migration.

Using verified crane migration sightings from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and a land cover analysis process, the team was able to model potential “stop-over” locations for whooping cranes during migration and advise the client on construction activities without slowing down construction efforts.

Lender Foreclosure GIS and Interactive Mapping

A regional branch of a national bank was struggling to determine fair market value of bank-owned real estate due to a large number of foreclosures and challenging market conditions. To help the bank manage its distressed real estate portfolio, Atwell developed a customized, GIS-based data solution

Utilizing geospatial technology, the application allows the client to visually interpret data associated with its foreclosed assets to optimize the portfolio’s management and maintenance. Data sets for comparison include bank-owned property locations categorized by usage and status, competitor property locations, market values, and other client-defined criteria. The custom application offers a singular data source, advanced search capabilities and custom reporting features – both visual and numerical – so users can easily identify, analyze, report and market their assets with just a few clicks.
